According to the CPSC, the design of the U-shaped air conditioners can lead to water getting trapped in the front grille. Over time the accumulated water inside the unit’s base can lead to mold growth, which can be released into the indoor air during use. There have been 152 reported incidents of mold growth, 17 of which resulted in adverse health effects such as respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, sneezing, as well as sore throat from mold exposure. The recall affects about 1.7 million units sold in the USA, as well as 45,900 sold in Canada. Where Were the Recalled ACs Sold?
