Single-zone DIY mini split:

MRCOOL DIY-18 18000 BTU DIY 4th Gen Energy Star Series Single Zone 22 SEER Mini Split with Heat Pump

To install this single zone mini split system all you need is a few hours and some regular tools. Nothing special is required. It has a cooling capacity of 18,000 BTUs that can service a room about 550 – 800 sq. ft. or 20′ x 25′ up to about 29′ x 28′. 

This system is Energy Star Certified boasting high ratings including 22 SEER and 11.5 HSPF4. It comes with SmartController WiFi control module for smart home integration, and 25-foot DIY Pro Cable. 

The whole system ships in two packages. The indoor unit ships with all the required hardware needed for installation including a wall template and mounting plate, wall sleeve (to send the piping and line set through), a remote and the SmartController. The line sets will ship in the box with the condenser unit as well as a 25 ft pro-cable will be included with this system.

Tri-zone DIY mini split:

This EnergyStar rated tri-zone mini-split system delivers 18,000 BTUs of both cooling and heating, with a maximum connected capacity of 25,000 BTUs.

It boasts impressive energy efficiency ratings of 23.9 SEER2 and 13.0 EER2, thanks to Inverter Technology, where a dynamic speed compressor automatically adjusts to meet real-time demand, instead of running at 100% all the time. It also uses R454B refrigerant, which has the lowest GWP (Global Warming Potential) on the market. 

Features include anti-corrosion protection on the Gold Fin condenser, ensuring the unit runs efficiently even in harsher climates such as coastal regions; and low ambient functionality – offering 100% cooling capacity down to 5°F, perfect for server rooms and greenhouses. 

It also comes equipped with a Smart HVAC Module, allowing easy control via the MrCool SmartHVAC App. 

Quadzone DIY mini split:

MRCOOL DIY-MULTI4-27HP230D-O 5TH Gen 26000 BTU 23 SEER Configurable Quad-Zone Mini Split

This EnergyStar certified quad-zone mini split system delivers 26,000 BTUs of cooling and heating, with a maximum connected capacity of 36,000 BTUs. 

It uses R454B refrigerant, which has the lowest GWP (Global Warming Potential) on the market. Additionally it uses Inverter Technology, where a dynamic speed compressor automatically adjusts output to match real-time demand. This allows it to achieve impressive energy efficiency ratings of 23 SEER2, and 12.0 EER2. 

Features include anti-corrosion treatment on the outdoor GoldFin condenser to protect against corrosion and deterioration over time, as well as low ambient functionality, with 100% cooling down to 5°F, and a cooling range of -13°F to 122°F. The heating range extends down from -13°F to 75°F.

DIY Ceiling Cassette mini split:

This ceiling cassette is compatible with any MRCOOL multizone outdoor condenser. It delivers 18,000 BTUs of cooling and heating through its heat pump, ideal for medium to large-sized rooms up to 800 sq. ft. 

Features include four unique fan speeds and multiple operating modes, including auto mode for convenient dynamic comfort control; Dry Mode, and Sleep Mode, where the temperature dynamically adjusts while you rest, maximizing comfort and savings. Additionally, the SmartHVAC module enables easy remote control via your smartphone, Amazon Alexa or Google Home. 

As with all MRCOOL units, Pre-Charged Quick Connect Line Sets ensure easy installation without needing to bring in an HVAC professional.

MRCOOL’s DIY Advantage

One of the standout features of the MRCOOL brand is its DIY design. The company’s mini splits are the only truly do-it-yourself ductless mini-split. 

This is accomplished through several patented innovations:

Precharged line sets 

The mini splits use R-410a pre-charged Quick Connect® line sets that allow non-professionals to install the system without needing specialized tools, equipment or training. 

They are the signature component of the DIY series as they greatly simplify the installation process. Without these essential parts, one would need costly HVAC tools to connect, vacuum, and charge the line set, making the installation of a new mini split considerably more expensive.

To ensure reliability, the line sets underwent hydrostatic pressure testing by an independent product testing company. The connected fitting assemblies were subjected to a minimum pressure of 400 PSI in an environmental chamber for eight hours, as well as a pull test of 500 pounds of force.

Coupler kits

In case the included 25ft line sets aren’t long enough, MRCOOL also makes coupler kits to extend line sets. The kits come in two sizes, one for 9k, 12k and 18k units; and another for 24k, 36k and 48k units.

Smart Home Integration

Just because it’s DIY doesn’t mean it’s lowtech. The 4th gen series also comes with an integrated wireless controller.

This means your MRCOOL mini split can be controlled with your smartphone or tablet, from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This is accomplished with the MRCOOL SmartHVAC app, available for both Apple and Android devices.

The app allows for a wide range of functions. These include:
