Single-zone DIY mini split:

MRCOOL DIY-18 18000 BTU DIY 4th Gen Energy Star Series Single Zone 22 SEER Mini Split with Heat Pump

To install this single zone mini split system all you need is a few hours and some regular tools. Nothing special is required. It has a cooling capacity of 18,000 BTUs that can service a room about 550 – 800 sq. ft. or 20′ x 25′ up to about 29′ x 28′. 

This system is Energy Star Certified boasting high ratings including 22 SEER and 11.5 HSPF4. It comes with SmartController WiFi control module for smart home integration, and 25-foot DIY Pro Cable. 

The whole system ships in two packages. The indoor unit ships with all the required hardware needed for installation including a wall template and mounting plate, wall sleeve (to send the piping and line set through), a remote and the SmartController. The line sets will ship in the box with the condenser unit as well as a 25 ft pro-cable will be included with this system.

Tri-zone DIY mini split:

MRCOOL DIY-MULTI3-27HP230C 4th Gen 27000 BTU 22 SEER Configurable Tri-Zone Mini Split

This tri-zone model can take up to 3 indoor wall units, totaling 33,000 BTUs. The system’s output capacity is 27,000 BTUs but the system will allow for 33,000 BTU connected capacity. It features a DC inverter variable speed compressor resulting in high efficiency, up to 22 SEER rating for energy efficiency. 

It also boasts low ambient functionality, being capable of 100% cooling operation down to 5°F. This makes it an ideal system for computer server rooms, greenhouses, and any other application that requires cooling all year.

For those who live near coastal areas, the Gold Fin condenser is built to resist long term corrosion, giving you one less thing to think about.

Quadzone DIY mini split:

MRCOOL DIY-MULTI4-36HP230C 4TH Gen 36000 BTU 21.5 SEER Configurable Quad-Zone Mini Split

This quad-zone system can take up to 4 indoor wall units, totaling 42,000 BTUs. The system’s output capacity is 36,000 BTUs but the system will allow for 42,000 BTU connected capacity. 

When connected as a 4 zone system, it offers a 21.5 SEER rating for energy efficiency. This is accomplished by a DC inverter and variable speed compressor for improved operational efficiency.

Mr. Cool uses its own unique pre-charged Quick Connect Line Sets, which are not included. The good news is that no vacuuming is needed, so therefore no HVAC installer is required! Line sizes are 1/4″ x 1/2″ for 9000, 12000 and 18000 BTU indoor units. You will need a 3/8″ x 5/8″ line set for 24,000 BTU indoor units.

DIY Ceiling Cassette mini split:

MRCOOL DIYCASSETTE-18 18000 BTU Ceiling Cassette DIY 4th Gen Energy Star Series Single Zone 21.8 SEER Mini Split with Heat Pump

This ceiling cassette model has a capacity of 18,000 BTUs and cool a space that is about 550 – 800 sq. ft. In actual dimensions, that is a room that measures about 20′ x 25′ up to about 29′ x 28′. It is Energy Star Certified boasting high ratings including 21.8 SEER and 11.6 HSPF4. The ambient temperature requirements for this unit are -13° – 122°F for the cooling mode.

This innovative ceiling cassette is a low-profile unit that blends seamlessly into any installation. It is designed to work with standard 16″ on center ceiling joists or pre-manufactured I-Joists. It is easily installed between the joists and secured with screws. Replacing the air filter is easy as well. The ceiling cassette is designed with an air filter panel that can be lowered and raised, remotely, for easy filter cleaning or replacement. Simply activate the Elevation Function and the filter panel will lower automatically – no ladder required!

It comes with a WiFi module for smart home integration, a 25 ft DIY Pro Cable and a 25 ft line set. It features crimped connectors as well as protective conduit covering for long lasting use.

Precharged line sets 

The mini splits use R-410a pre-charged Quick Connect® line sets that allow non-professionals to install the system without needing specialized tools, equipment or training. 

They are the signature component of the DIY series as they greatly simplify the installation process. Without these essential parts, one would need costly HVAC tools to connect, vacuum, and charge the line set, making the installation of a new mini split considerably more expensive.

To ensure reliability, the line sets underwent hydrostatic pressure testing by an independent product testing company. The connected fitting assemblies were subjected to a minimum pressure of 400 PSI in an environmental chamber for eight hours, as well as a pull test of 500 pounds of force.

DIYPro Cable

Available with the DIY 4th gen mini split series, the DIYPro™ cable eliminates the need for electrical conduit.

Coupler kits

In case the included 25ft line sets aren’t long enough, MRCOOL also makes coupler kits to extend line sets. The kits come in two sizes, one for 9k, 12k and 18k units; and another for 24k, 36k and 48k units.

Smart Home Integration

Just because it’s DIY doesn’t mean it’s lowtech. The 4th gen series also comes with an integrated wireless controller.

This means your MRCOOL mini split can be controlled with your smartphone or tablet, from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This is accomplished with the MRCOOL SmartHVAC app, available for both Apple and Android devices.

The app allows for a wide range of functions. These include:
